The group was formed in 1916 and has just celebrated its centenary. We are a group that holds traditional scouting values and as such we focus on outdoor scout craft as well as the more modern scouting activities.
As with many scout groups over the years our fortunes have fluctuated, once upon a time the group hand its own band and biplane ( http://www.britishpathe.com/video/budding-aviators-boy-scouts )!! Our fortunes are often a function of the support we get from parents and we pride ourselves on being a very friendly, family oriented group where, if everyone gives a little – we can achieve a lot for the young people in our care!!
We have three thriving sections of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts as well as being the host group for the local Explorer Scouts (14-17 year olds).
We aim to ensure that the majority of our members achieve the maximum award that is available in their section. For example; cubs should achieve “Chief Scout Silver” as well as enjoying the outdoor experiences that scouting can offer by providing a good variety of camps/trips throughout the year.
As already mentioned we are a group that actively encourages and needs parental involvement to ensure its continued success. We have noticed over the years that there is as much fun, skills and friendship to be gained by the parents as there is by the younger members of the group.
At present we have a few places in both beavers and cubs but we do also operate a waiting list. If your child is old enough to be either a beaver, cub or scout please contact the section leader directly. If your child is too young to join at the moment please follow the link below to our waiting list form to register them – so that when they are old enough and we have space we will contact you.
