Yet again we are to be the beneficiaries of a fund raising quiz night to be held at Hampton Social Club (Ashley Road)on Friday 26th August – 8.15pm for an 8.30pm start. Teams of maximum 5 adults, £5 entry per team. Quiz finishes at 10.30pm.
There will also be a raffle. All funds raised go to the group
Please come along for a fun quiz, cheap drinks and to help raise funds towards the kitchen redevelopment.
It would be great to have lots of teams there so we can raise lots of money for the new kitchen.
Beavers start the new term on Wednesday 7th September, Cubs are back on Thursday the 8th and Scouts on the 9th. For those new to the group – welcome!
Please check here for group news and information – the booking form for next year’s family camp is already on the website.
If you don’t have the password speak to your section leader.
The new term at scouts starts on Friday 9th September – more information will be going out via email and in the password protected parts of the website. The first competition of the year is on Sunday 9th October – Day Prowl – which is a district incident hiking challenge. I need to know right at the start of term who is up for this – teams of 4 to 7 scouts – we should be able to
make up 3 or more teams to take part in this to build on our performance in the night hike earlier in the year…
Summer camp was, yet again, blessed with great weather for most of the week and the few scouts that went enjoyed a week full of activities and fun, between them they did, zip wire, laser tag, abseiling, kayaking, various inflatables (assault course, bungee run, giant slide, gladiator, sweeper, slippery slope) as well as archery, air rifle, fire lighting, rope-a-phobia, quad biking, pedal cars, water wars, journalism, coconut tree climb, gyroscope, aeroball and the Tolmers incident hike.
In the evenings they enjoyed their own small campfires as well as watching a few of the movies on offer, finishing off with the Disco/foam party on Friday night.
Here’s hoping that we can get a lot more scouts there next to have a similar action packed week.
Well done to all the 15 scouts that attended Borough camp this year – everyone played their full part and we were very worthy runners up in the football competition and performed well in the Tug of War (rounders and volleyball clearly not our thing….).
All the scouts should be very proud of how well behaved they were and how they all got stuck in to the various task asked of them, pitching and striking their tents, loading and unloading the van and doing their fair share of camp chores, washing up, sawing/chopping wood etc.
Still time, if you’ve got the camp bug and want more, to join up for a week of great activities at Summer Camp (link here to the activities on offer at Tolmers http://www.tolmers.org.uk/activities.php
Just let me know ASAP all the information is in the Camps section.
Photos from camp should be on Flickr soon
We hope that everyone has just about recovered from a fun filled weekend at Tolmers. Here’s to next year….. watch this space for details – they will be out soon so you can get the date in the diary.
For those interested in numbers…. we had 54 children and 51 adults from 31 families – a fantastic turnout.
If you are booked on either of these camps please see the new information in the Camps section and action ASAP.
If you haven’t booked but want to attend either – we still have space on both.
12 Scouts enjoyed a lovely weekend of water activities at this annual District Camp – taking part in Sailing, Canoeing, Pulling, raft building, kayaking, dragon boating and some challenges on land as well.
Photos will soon all be on Flickr.
Only 3 weeks to Family Camp and 4 to Borough Camp……
Just to let you all know that there is some additional information available in the Camps section of the website about this year’s Family Camp. Please read and be ready to make your final payments when the requests go out within the next few days.
